Indus originated in 2007 with Deborah and Jeffrey George who began developing small ranges of scarves progressively they extended the range to include Baby and Home Decor. The relationships with the makers became central to growing an understanding of traditional trades in printing, weaving and knitting techniques.
Crafts that originated centuries ago are often practiced in the same way. The people behind the product are artisans, it’s their skill that sits at the foundation of Indus.
The designing of our collection is constantly evolving but is always inspired by nature including both creatures and landscape. Creating new characters and patterns each season is a wonderfully fulfilling process. Sourcing the best quality in natural fibres is essential to creating beautiful products that feel good, can breathe and are suitable for our skin…especially for the little ones. We endeavour to create collections each season that have longevity by using quality fibres and timeless design.
Increasingly we are conscious of our responsibility to reduce our impact on the world. The use of natural fibres is positive but complicated with many opportunities for improvement including maintaining a close connection to the source of fibre and the manufacturing process. Packaging and shipping continue to present challenges. This has prompted us to start manufacturing some products in Australia to create a short supply chain and support local manufacturing. Durability, function and design help reduce the need to replace. Indus hopes for its products to be cherished, passed down or on and gifted with love to your friends and family.
